DP83867E: 1000base-t transformerless

Part Number: DP83867E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83869

Is it possible to connect EtherPHY devices (such as the DP83867E) without transformers and perform 1000BASE‑T communication?
The PHY devices will be mounted on the same PCB.

We are also considering a transformerless connection between the LAN7800 and DP83867E.

  • Hi Maeda-san,

We recommend doing transformerless connection with DP83869, not PD83867E. If pricing is an issue, please contact marketing or local TI office for support so we can assist on that.

  • I see that you recommend the DP83869 for implementing transformerless configuration.

Could you point me to any AppNotes or application reports that describe a method for using/connecting/configuring that recommended part in this application? (Perhaps something similar to application report SNLA088A )

I have a new design in which I plan to utilize a transformerless 100Base-X connection to a Ethernet switch, so any supplementary information would be welcome.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Kedric,

Unfortunately, there is no published documentation on this, but same configuration using 33nF capacitor was internally tested with DP83869.
We typically refer customers to the application report you linked for transformerless configuration for newer PHYs.

    Best,
    J
