DP83826AE: Capacitance on Cext pin

Part Number: DP83826AE
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83826I, DP83826E

The datasheet of the DP83826A (SNLS783A – MAY 2025 – REVISED OCTOBER 2025) lists only 2nF to ground for the CEXT pin (Table 5-1 and Table 6-1), which seems very small. This value is also found in datasheet for the DP83826I, DP83826E.

The evaluation board uses 100nF on this pin with possibility to add an additional capacitor (Figure 5-2, SNLU357 – APRIL 2025). This is a magnitude larger then the value specified in the datasheet.

The application note "How and Why to Use the DP83826A for EtherCAT Applications" (SNLA488 – JULY 2025) even gives an example of using 100nF and 2.2uF in parallel on this pin (Figure 3-1). This seems more of an expected value but is several magnitutes larger than the value specified in the datasheet.

Is the 2nF for CEXT in the datasheets correct?
