TCAN330G: TIDA-01238: Resistor termination during device off-state

Part Number: TCAN330G
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01238

Hi,

I'm looking at implementing a photo relay as per TIDA-01238 for switching a termination resistor.
However, I'm unsure what happens if the node with this implementation loses power. Logically, the photo relay will lose power and termination will be lost, but also the CAN transceiver will lose power and be off. Is this an issue in a topology where the node is expected to have CAN termination?

Thanks!

  • Hi Paul,

No concerns for the CAN transceiver that will be off. However, other nodes / the bus expecting proper termination may see the mismatched impedance and observe reflections. Would recommend to always ensure proper termination even when unpowered (may use an always-on rail, may also consider a fixed termination with removable jumper for service) or may not assign it as an end terminator if it can be removed / powered down, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.
