TPS386000: Design Review

Part Number: TPS386000

Dear TI Team,

SENSE1 for VCC_12V
SENSE2 for VCC_5V
SENSE3 for VCC_3V3
SENSE4L  Not used and terminated with optional Pull up and Pull down with 100K
SENSE4H Not used and terminated with optional Pull up and Pull down with 100K

Could you check the termination of unsued SENSE4L, SENSE4H, Reset4# pins.
Kindly review the full design and provide your feedback.

  • Dear TI Team,

We have made the CT4 as NC.

Please consider this snap as a final design for review.

  • Hi Sandhiya,

Thanks for your question! Please see my comments below:

    1. For unused SENSE pins (SENSE4L and SENSE4H) they should be connected to VDD and the output (RESET4) can be left floating.

    2. In your current configuration, the MR pin being pulled low will permanently cause RESET1 to assert. My recommendation is to connect it to VDD to always have the device functioning normally and not in MR mode. An MCU GPIO can also be used to toggle MR pin.

    3. If the WD is unused, I recommend connecting WDI to GND and to leave WDO floating.

    Best Regards,

    Andrew Li

  • Hi Andrew,

I have implemented your feedback in our design.

And I attached the design here, please verify to proceed further.

    Thanks

  • Hi Sandhiya,

Looks good to me! If you have no further questions, I will go ahead and close this thread.

    Best Regards,

    Andrew Li

  • HI Andrew,

    Thanks for your design verification.

  • Hi Sandhiya,

No problem and I'm glad I could help. If you anymore questions come up, please feel free to reach out!

  • Hi Andrew,

Regarding the TPS386000RGPR design, I would like some clarification on the SENSE4L and SENSE4H pins, which we are currently not using.

From the datasheet (Below Image) it is suggested that the SENSE4H pin can be connected to ground if unused. We have followed the same approach in our design.
However, we do not plan to use the SENSE4L pin. Could you please confirm whether the unused SENSE4L pin can be safely left floating, or if it requires a defined connection ?

Additionally, could you please confirm whether all reset pins are internally connected together, or if they operate independently?

Your guidance on these points would be very helpful.

    Thank you for your support.

  • Hi Sandhiya,

    Thanks for reaching out again!

If SENSE4L is unused, it should be connected to VDD. SENSE4H should be connected to GND as noted on the datasheet if it is unused.

The corresponding output (RESET4) should be left floating.

The reset pins are independent and for each corresponding SENSE input. For example,  RESET2 is the output for SENSE2. RESET4 is for both SENSE4L and SENSE4H.

    I hope this helps!

    Best Regards,

    Andrew Li
