PCA9306: BQ2050 DQ signal

I am using MBITR battery to power my design. This MBITR battery has TI BQ2050 Lithium ION power gauge IC. I am trying to read DQ single wire signal from BQ2050 but I have very hard time to do it.

Initially I have used TXS0104E level shifter to connect this DQ signal to our CPU 1.8V GPIO pin. It worked once and then the IC keep blowing. Then I used PCA9306 I2C level shifter IC. But this also worked once then blown. Now I am looking what should I used to read DQ signal from BQ2050.

Hi Muhammad,

When you say the device worked once, then was blown, does that mean the TXS or PCA device was damaged in the process?

Do you have an image of your schematic and use case?

Yes both device were damaged. I have schematics with TXS device please look below.

Hi Muhammad,

Is there a point in communication where a signal line is in push-pull on A-side and in push-pull on B-side where contention could occur? I.e., A1 drives HIGH, B1 drives LOW at the same time causing a high current path through the TXS?

Any susceptibility for ESD events due to connector on B-side?

It does sound like something that could happen - we send a command through the A side, switch the gpio direction and wait for the MBITR to send a response. I suppose if we send a message at the same time the mbitr is responding to another message, then this type of thing could happen.

No ESD susceptibility.
