TCAN1473-Q1: CAN Transciver short to battery

Hi experts,

for the CAN transceiver we are using following ICs for our project.

TCAN1473CDMTRQ1 for the wakeup CAN and TCAN1472VDRBRQ1 for the ones without wakeup.

As you know we have the Req. Short circuit to battery at CAN-High and CAN-Low.

The test says:

We must apply 52V for 60s on CAN-High and on CAN-Low.

 

From the datasheet of the Transceivers both have these values:

Its only specified up to 40V do you have a value up to 52V?

If the sinking current is the same for 52V as for 40V we would have a power loss in the transceiver IC of 0,115A*52V = 5,98 W for 60s. Does the transceiver survive this? Or did I overlook some safety shut off?

    Unfortunately, we do not have the spec for 52 V. The spec also implies the output current of IOS / 2 due to two parallel 120 ohms termination resistors typically on a CAN bus. I.e., the bus sees an effective resistance of 60 ohms and P = (IOS/2)^2 * 60 ohms.

    Further note that the transceiver should survive any voltage below the abs max rating. Hence, no concerns if 52 V is seen at the CANH / CANL pins as this is below the specified 58 V. However, this is typically not the case as transients can be higher due to inductive kickback on the bus and would recommend to verify as needed.
