Problem with two PCI-e Adaptors TI XIO2200a chip

Hi, this is my first post here. I'm from Argentina.

I have two PCI-e firewire adaptors with XIO2200A chipset (product link) in a single computer.
It's configured to record video from HD camcorders.
I'm using onboard IEEE1394 port also to connect a third camcorder.
When connecting first camcorder in one of the pci-e adaptors, it's working fine with my video
software (VidBlaster Studio). Connecting the second one to the onboard port works fine too.
The problem is to connect the third one to the second pci-e adaptor. Windows Seven find the
new device, but it's not available to be a source in recording software, either in Adobe
Premiere.
The question is about two pci-e adaptors "living together" in the same computer.
There is any known issue about that?
My computer setup is:
  • MB INTEL DZ68DB - VGA
  • QUAD CORE I7 2600 SB 3.4 - 1155
  • DDR3 - 2 GB PC 1333 - KINGSTON x 3
  • HD 1.0 TB SATA3 - WD CAVIAR GREEN
  • GFORCE GT430 1 GB - EVGA
Thanks in advance for your help!
  • Hello Mauro,

We are reviewing your issue and will reply soon.

    Regards.

  • Hello Mauro,

If you connect the two XIO2200A and do not connect your on-board port, is the issue still present?

What is the model of your camcorders?

IF you connect the three camcorders but only record video from one of them, is the issue present?

    Regards.

  • Hi Elias,

do you write in spanish? Maybe it's easier for both.

To your first question, YES, the issue is still present with two camcorders connected to XIO2200A and none to on-board port.

The camcorders are three SONY HVR Z5.

To verify operation of both XIO2200A, I disconnect one of the camcorders, and the first works just fine. I do the same procedure with the second one (and the first disconnected) and the second one works fine too. So, individually, both XIO2200A works fine. But simultaneously we have this issue.

Thanks a lot for your time,

    regards,

  • Mauro,

I am doing some bench testing, there could be an issue when using two host controllers together.

Is there any specific reason for using two XIO2200A?

Isn't possible to use only one and its two 1394 ports?

    Regards.

  • Elias,

The main reason for using two controllers together is to assign one controller to each camera, to avoid overloading a single data bus with two data streams.

    Thanks a lot,

    regards,

  • Mauro,

Have you seen a drop-off on the throughput if you connect the two cameras to the same controller?

I am positive one controller can handle the bandwidth.

Nevertheless, make sure every XIO2200 has a different GUID (Global Unique Identification) when they are both connected to the system.

If both would have the same GUID, windows should flag one of the on device manager.

TO see what GUID each XIO2200 has, go to offset register 04h on the XIO2200A, or go to the offset register 24h at the serial EEPROM included in the EVM.
