DS90UB948-Q1: Part Recommendation Request: Integrated Solution for PHUD (Panoramic HUD) with 320-zone Local Dimming

Part Number: DS90UB948-Q1

Hello,

I am looking for a TI solution for a PHUD (Panoramic HUD) Module currently in the pre-development stage for an automotive customer .

We need to support both high-resolution display processing and high-density Local Dimming control. Could you please recommend the best-fit ICs (or a chipset solution) based on the following specifications?

1. Display Specifications:

  • Resolution: 1500 x 256 (TFT LCD)

  • Interface: Likely OpenLDI (LVDS) or MIPI DSI (Please recommend a suitable FPD-Link Deserializer for this resolution).

2. Local Dimming Backlight (BLU) Specifications:

  • Total LEDs: 320 LEDs

  • Control Requirement: * Option A: 320-zone individual control (1 LED per zone)

    • Option B: 160-zone control (2 LEDs per zone)

  • Goal: High contrast ratio and minimized halo effect for HUD applications.

3. Key Requirements:

  • Automotive Grade: All components must be AEC-Q100 qualified.

  • Integrated Control: A solution that can synchronize the display data with the local dimming zones efficiently (e.g., using FPD-Link back-channel or a dedicated LED controller).

Could you provide a high-level Block Diagram or a Reference Design that covers this type of Panoramic HUD architecture?

Best regards,

  • Hi David,

    1. For the LVDS deserializers, you could consider using the DS90Ux948-Q1, DS90Ux928-Q1, or the latest FPD-Link IV LVDS deserializer DS90Ux988-Q1. All of these components are automotive Q1 rated.

We do not currently have a DSI output deserializer.

2 and 3. For local dimming reference, please check this presentation with components options and references: https://www.ti.com/lit/ml/slyp694/slyp694.pdf

Please let me know if you would like us to elaborate on the reference design.

    Best regards,
    Ikram
