SN75DPHY440SS: SN75DPHY440SSRHRR – Question about Calculating Ta and Tc

Part Number: SN75DPHY440SS

Hello,

We measured the temperature approximately 0.5 cm above the component SN75DPHY440SSRHRR, and the measured temperature was 72.9 °C.

According to the datasheet, the Operating free-air temperature for SN75DPHY440SS is 70 °C, so the measured temperature slightly exceeds the specified limit.

However, during our testing, the device did not show any malfunction or damage.

Therefore, we would like to ask:

Is it acceptable to estimate Ta (ambient temperature) and Tc (case temperature) by measuring the power consumption of SN75DPHY440SS and using the thermal resistances provided in the datasheet:

RJA = 42.1 °C/W

RJC(top) = 32.3 °C/W

to calculate the corresponding temperatures?

Thank you.
