Hi team,

I hope this query finds you well.

Our customer is evaluting the DS90UB953-Q1 and DS90UB954-Q1.
They want to access the feasibility of using a splitter.
They are considering a 2 Ways MMIC Power Splitter, DC - 18000 MHz, 50Ω | EP2RKU+ | Mini-Circuits

Would it be feasible to disbale the reverse channel on the debugger path in the setup?

    Adding an additional IC between the serdes is not recommended. The additional IC will introduce loss on the high speed channel likely causing signal degradation. I2C communication across each stream would also be difficult and likely result in conflicts or limited communication capabilities. If multiple data streams are needed, it would be recommended to utilize a replication port on the deserializer instead. The deserializer replication port would duplicate the data stream allowing for the same data to be sent to two locations in the system.

  • Please note, duplicating an FPD channel with an IC between the serdes is not a validated use case. Using the devices in this manner, will limit FPD-Link functionality. Even with disabling the back channel, the inserted IC will still impact the signal integrity and break communication. There will be no communication between the devices, local I2C access will be needed to configure each device independently. Additional testing and validation of this system would need to be completed by the customer to verify the behavior of serdes with the splitter IC.
