TRS3232E-Q1: TRS3232EQPWRQ1 ESD Protection Information

Hello,

We are using the TRS3232EQPWRQ1 IC for RS-232 communication. According to the datasheet, the RS-232 pins are rated as shown in the image below. Do we still need external ESD protection, such as adding capacitors?

    Thanks for reaching out on E2E!

    This device already has decent ESD protection built-in. For some customers, this is more than enough for their needs. It is up to you to decide if 8kV of IEC contact is enough for your system. If you desire more, I would recommend adding TI's ESDS552, which has 30kV of IEC contact protection as well as surge protection.
