SN75LBC172: Output differential level

Part Number: SN75LBC172

Dear Technical Support Team,

Could you please advise on the operation of SN75LBC172DWR?

In our actual operating environment, we observed that the differential output signal driven from a 5 V supply resulted in a differential voltage of less than 3 V.

Is it correct to understand that this behavior is due to the LinBiCMOS technology described in the datasheet, where the output voltage is intentionally adjusted to meet the RS‑485 standard requirements while reducing power consumption?

Best Regards,

ttd

  • ttd,

The differential output of the device is dependent on the loading of the differential pin.

If you have a 100 ohm resistor across the differential pin, you will get a different VoD compared to if you had a 1M ohm resistor or 54 ohms.
