TUSB2E11: eUSB Repeater for compliance test

Part Number: TUSB2E11

Hi team,

Please help to answer the questions from customer:

Please help confirm how to perform compliance testing for the following USB repeater. Thank you.

Questions:
1. After the SOC completes initialization of the eUSB PHY function, by configuring the eUSB PHY registers to send the standard protocol "Test Packet" pattern on the eDP/eDM signals, can the eUSB Repeater receive and forward the "Test Packet" on the DP/DM signals? How should the eUSB Repeater be configured to achieve this function?

2. If Item 1 cannot be implemented, how to control the eUSB Repeater to enter USB compliance mode and send the "Test Packet" on the DP/DM signals to the Type‑C connector?

Both steps above are intended to test the DP/DM signal eye diagram in USB host and device modes.

Regards,

Eileen

  • Hi Eileen,

Once the eUSB2 repeater has been configured by the eUSB2 PHY via the eDP/eDM lanes, the repeater will be able to send the TEST PACKETS from the eUSB2 SOC to the Type-C connector, yes. The TUSB2E11 should be configured by the PHY to be configured as a host repeater, enabling it to translate eUSB2 signals to USB2 signals. Otherwise, the customer can adjust the USB2 PHY in the TUSB2E11 via either GPIO or I2C:

Both steps above are intended to test the DP/DM signal eye diagram in USB host and device modes.

Do they want to test with the eUSB2 PHY in Host/Device mode? Or do they just want to measure the eye diagram at the host and at the device? The TUSB2E11 can support both configurations, as long as it is configured via the eDP/eDM lanes.

Please ensure the customer is using the latest version of the USB Electrical Testing tool, this should be updated to account for the addition of eUSB2: https://www.usb.org/document-library/usbet20

  • Hi Ryan,

Please check the further questions from customers:

    Question 1:
We mainly need to verify the eUSB2 PHY in Host/Device mode. However, the eye diagram of DP/DM signals output from the Repeater must also pass the test to ensure the normal operation of the EVB system.
If the tool in the link below is unavailable, and we only force the SOC eUSB PHY to send "Test Packet", can the TUSB2E11 still support the test mentioned in item 1?

    Question 2:
Please also help to check whether we can configure the Repeater via I2C to force it to send "Test Packet" on DP/DM signals to the Type-C connector.

    Eileen

  • Hi Eileen,

We mainly need to verify the eUSB2 PHY in Host/Device mode. However, the eye diagram of DP/DM signals output from the Repeater must also pass the test to ensure the normal operation of the EVB system.

Correct, this is mostly for a TX/Host application. Our repeater should be able to translate the signal on eDP/eDM to DP/DM and out of the connector so the signal can be tested.

If the tool in the link below is unavailable, and we only force the SOC eUSB PHY to send "Test Packet", can the TUSB2E11 still support the test mentioned in item 1?

This tool is only used to analyze a waveform that is entered into it, typically as a .csv file. This tool should be able to generate an eye diagram and provide a report of the TX complaince.

We typically use the XHSETT tool to enable TEST_PACKETs being sent to a USB port from a PHY, but if the PHY is able to output those test packets on it's own then that should also be okay.

    Question 2:
Please also help to check whether we can configure the Repeater via I2C to force it to send "Test Packet" on DP/DM signals to the Type-C connector.

No, our repeaters do not have the ability to generate TEST_PACKETs and cannot be forced into a configuration via I2C. Our repeater must be configured via the eDP/eDM lanes from the eUSB2 PHY, and then must receive TEST_PACKETs from the PHY.

    Thanks,
