TCAN1472-Q1: TCAN1472-q1 application case

Part Number: TCAN1472-Q1

Hi Team,

Customer is evaluating TCAN1472-Q1 in their project and there are following questions:

  1. For CAN termination, any recommendation for C_split use in differential mode noise?  image.png

2. For common mode noise, we used the formular c=1/(2*pi*f*r) with data rate 5Mbps, caculated capacitance is out of 4.7nF, how should we choose the C_split? Any recommendation capacitance if we need 5Mbps?

3. Can we add split termination circuit on both end of cable and termination node? Any risks for this?

BRs.

  • Hi Frank,

    1. and 2. Yes, 4.7 nF is typical for typical speed. However, for higher speed, 1 nF to 4.7 nF could suffice (calculated 1/[2*pi*2.5MHz*120ohms] as 0.53 nF) where 4.7 nF considered with the high speed if you have stronger EMC issues and the signal integrity is still acceptable.

    3. Yes, this is actually recommended, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.
