SN65HVD30-EP: SN65HVD30-EP Do-160G Technical Support

Part Number: SN65HVD30-EP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THVD2452V-EP, SN65HVD30

Dear TI Support Team,

My name is Seungjoo Yoo, a Senior Engineer at Moasoft in South Korea.

We are currently designing a hardware system for a helicopter project using V62/06634-01XE,V62/13621-01XE This system must strictly comply with DO-160G Level 3 standards.

Our system includes RS-422 and RS-232 communication lines, and we need to implement robust hardware protection circuits to survive lightning-induced transients and surges as specified in DO-160G Section 22.

Does TI provide any official application notes, reference designs (including TVS diode selection and series resistance), or simulation data for DO-160G Level 3 protection for these interfaces?

If this requires sharing confidential information, please let me know so we can move this to a private thread.

  • Hi Seungjoo,

Thanks for reaching out on E2E about this. We do not have any documentation on the DO-160G standard for our transceivers. However, what we do have is a high voltage protection guide which uses fuses and a couple other components to help with high voltage/current conditions: https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tiduer9/tiduer9.pdf

Another recommendation that I suggest is to consider our newer THVD2452V-EP. The main benefit with this transceiver is that it can sustain much higher voltages up to +/-70V on the bus bins without damage. The SN65HVD30 only has -9Vto 14V. THVD2452V-EP enables a higher data rate and has internal ESD protection and EFT protection, amongst other benefits.

    Best,

    Ethan
