DS125BR800A: DS125BR800ANJYR related consultatio

Part Number: DS125BR800A

Hi Teams,

A customer's project requires a CPRI interface for communication between two boards, with a communication rate of 10.1376Gbps and a high-speed cable length of 1.5 meters.
Due to the relatively large size and long wiring of the two boards, as well as a 1.5-meter cable outside the board, both boards are designed with TI DS125BR800ANJYR repeaters near the interconnect connectors. There are many CPRI channels (4 lanes * 12 groups), and the PCB routing ranges from 4000mil to 10000mil.

Phenomenon description:
When the customer was conducting FPGA high-speed port IBERT testing, two boards were paired for testing. When the transmission rate was 6Gbps, the test was normal (PRBS7/15/23);
When the transmission rate is 9.8Gbps, PRBS7 tests normally; PRBS15 test has errors, PRBS23 test has errors and may disconnect;
When the transmission rate is 10.1376Gbps, PRBS7 testing is normal; PRBS15 test error rate increases, PRBS23 test error rate increases, and the probability of disconnection increases.

Question for advice:
Can DS125BR800ANJYR and DS125BR800SQE repeaters be used for CPRI interface bus (10.1376Gbps)?
2. If it can be used, what is the recommended configuration based on the product characteristics? For example, the configuration of EQ, DEM, MODE, etc. What are the experience points or configuration principles?

  • Hi Vayne,

    Can DS125BR800ANJYR and DS125BR800SQE repeaters be used for CPRI interface bus (10.1376Gbps)?

    Yes. This data-rate is within the listed 12.5-Gbps.

    The PRBS tests failing as data rate is increased indicates there is an equalization and/or de-emphasis issue in the system. I don't have an exact recommendation for your system shown. Instead, you should sweep through EQ values and find the ones with the lowest BER.

    One point of guidance is that I expect the channels downstream of the 1.5m cable to need a higher EQ compared to the channels upstream of the 1.5m cable. This is because of the added loss from the cable which the downstream redriver needs to compensate.

    Best,

    Charles
