SN65MLVD047A: Question about termination impedance

Part Number: SN65MLVD047A

Is there any reason the SN65MLVD047A cannot be terminated with 95 ohm differential, 50 ohm single ended?  It has the capability to drive below 50 ohms differential which it is designed for, and the recommended operating conditions are 55 ohms max.  But will it work and meet its specs with 100 ohms differential too?

  • Hi Reed,

If you are sending data unidirectionally, you can use standard LVDS 100Ohm termination at the receiver node only. However, if you are sending and receiving data between nodes (MLVDS), you will need two 100Ohm termination resistors which will bring your overall resistance to 50Ohms. This is per the MLVDS standard. However, if you are doing unidirectional communication where regular LVDS is used, I would recommend you just use an LVDS device instead of MLVDS.
