TCAN1043A-Q1: TCAN1043A failed in VW8000 E01 E02 E03 test.

Hi expert,

the customer followed the VW 8000 electrical performance test procedures. In the EO1(long-term overvoltage), EO2(transient overvoltage); EO3(transient undervoltage) tests, the customer reported TCAN1043A failure.

The current test results of the failed samples are as follows:

2. Regarding the current failure of TCAN1043A, please provide suggestions for further testing.

    Based on failed sample behavior, the device damage is most likely caused by transient overstress entering through VSUP and/or WAKE rather than CAN bus pins. The repeated VDDX regulator collapse may suggest internal power management overstress and additional suppression on VSUP, WAKE, and INH is strongly recommended. I.e., 

    • WAKE pin may be exposed to the pulses / spikes. May try isolating from VSUP to confirm or including a 3k ohms series resistor as shown in the first page of the data sheet. TVS clamp + RC filters may further be considered if failure is isolated to the WAKE pin,
    • Ensure that all supplies include decoupling caps as close as possible to the supply pin similar to figure 8-4 of the data sheet. VSUP may further include a local VSUP TVS as well.
    • External circuitry on INH may also inject transient energy back into the device and would recommend to isolate INH to confirm. May further add series resistor on INH while reviewing the Q3 interface
    • May further measure VSUP / WAKE / INH leakages vs the VDDX sourcing. May also isolate and inject the pulse separately on VSUP only, then WAKE only then INH only to identify the main failure entry point, thanks.
