DP83869HM: Link loss pass-through: how to detect if copper or fiber side has link loss in media-converter mode

Part Number: DP83869HM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83869

DP83869 is used in media converter mode (copper/fiber) and link loss pass through is enabled.

In case a link loss is detected, how can the user detect which side caused the link loss?

Is there a register that can be read by the user that indicates which side caused the link loss?

Best Regards,

Walter

  • Hi Walter,

Link loss pass through ties the link status of both copper and fiber together. I do not see a register to indicate which side the link loss began from.

A better approach would be to disable link loss pass through if debugging where the link is dropped, thus isolating the two interfaces. Are you debugging a link drop event in the system?

    Best,

    Shane
