TCAL9538: Query on maximum output drive current of TCAL9538PWR

Part Number: TCAL9538

Hi Team,
I have a few questions regarding the TCAL9538PWR device.

I am planning to use the I2C IO expander to drive an 7 segment display and would like clarification on the maximum output drive current per Port when operating at a 3.3 V supply.

Additionally, I noticed in the datasheet that the device includes internal pull-up and pull-down resistors with a minimum value of 70K. Could you please clarify whether these ports are capable of driving LEDs with minimum 3-5mA drive current

  • For output currents up to ±10 mA, the output voltages (VOL/VOH) are guaranteed. (For 3.3 V, add 0.3 V to the 3 V value.) The absolute maximum ratings allow up to 50 mA without damaging the device, but for currents between 10 mA and 50 mA, the output voltage is not guaranteed.

The pull-up/-down resistors are enabled only when you have configured them.

  • Hi Arunkumar,

Please let me know if you have any more questions. I agree with Clemens here.

    Regards,

    Tyler
