[FAQ]: TUSB2E22 to TUSB2E221QFN Migration Guide

Part Number: TUSB2E221
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB2E22

The TUSB2E221 is TI's latest eUSB2 2-port repeater, and offers a variety of updates and improvements to confirm to the eUSB2 V1.2 spec. Some of the updates are as follows:

  • 1.2V and 1.8V I2C support
  • eUSB2 Auto-resume ECR support
  • 1.2V or 1.8V I2C support via the VIOSEL pin
  • BC1.2 CDP support
  • Carkit UART support

Additionally, the TUSB2E221 has four different variant that allow for multiple repeaters to utilize the same I2C bus.

Aside from device functionality changes, there are also pinout differences between the two devices.

Transition Guide

14

Reserved

SDA

I2C communication is enabled. Add I2C control.

13

Reserved

SCL

I2C communication is enabled. Add I2C control.

VDD1V8

VIOSEL

No change if 1.8V I/O is desired.  To update I/O voltage to 1.2V, tie to GND.

12

Reserved

EQ2/INT

Can leave floating.  Route to APU for added interrupt capabilities.

2

EQ0

EQ0

Pull low to enable eUSB2 repeater mode for port 0.  In I2C mode, pull high if UART mode is required.

4

EQ1

EQ1

Pull low to enable eUSB2 repeater mode for port 1.  In I2C mode, pull high if UART mode is required.

CROSS

VDD3V3

Tie pin to 3V3 Rail, with a 100nF cap to GND.

Either GPIO or I2C can be used to configure the EQ of the TUSB2E221. If I2C is not being used, the following settings should be used for the I2C pins depending on the needed configuration.
