TCAN1043A-Q1: CAN H/L trace width

Part Number: TCAN1043A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ESD2CAN24-Q1

Hi Teams,

Based on the PCB stack-up provided by the PCB vendor, the CAN H/L differential pair on L1 & L10 is routed with a trace width of 2.7 mil (120 ohm).

Do you have any recommendation to increase the trace width, or any other layout suggestions (for CAN and ADC IC)? Thanks.

  • Hi Che,

It should be acceptable. However, also increase (4 to 6 mil should also be okay) with adjusted spacing to preserve the 120 ohm impedance if concerned with fabrication tolerances or if harder to maintain symmetry. Would also recommend same length, same / consistent number of vias and constant spacing.

May also see the data sheet's layout example with CMC as close to the IC pin, termination, bus caps and then ESD diode (ESD2CAN24-Q1) placed closer to the connector while ensuring a continuous solid ground reference plane underneath the CAN pair.

Would also suggest referencing the ADC data sheet examples for any specific ADC recommendations while keeping the analog / ADC inputs and CAN / switching nodes separate, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.
