DS90LV001: LVDS buffer selection

Part Number: DS90LV001
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65LVP19

Hi team,

I would like to check with you LVDS buffer. Do we have device to support below conditions?

impedance supports 85ohm

VOD swing to support 800mV

Thanks,

Oliver

  • Where do these specific values come from?

That would require a 9.4 mA driver. LVDS is designed for 350 mV over 100 Ω (3.5 mA); M-LVDS, for 570 mV over 50 Ω (11.3 mA), so an M-LVDS buffer might work with this. But M-LVDS signals are bidirectional, so there are no simple buffers.

  • Hi Oliver,

If you want an 800mV VOD, that would no longer be LVDS. That sounds like you are using LVPECL instead. A buffer like SN65LVP19 could be used here. However, LVPECL requires both lines to be terminated to Vcc -2 with 50Ohm resistors, bringing your total differential load to 100Ohms (see below). If you lower this to 85Ohms, you will see a lower VOD swing.

    Regards,

    Matt
