DP83869HM: Does DP83869 contain any embedded microcode or programmed logic?

Dear TI,

I am developing a board which will use a DP83869 Ethernet PHY. For certification, I must identify any devices which include embedded microcode or programmable logic, even if it can't be changed. Does the DP83869 contain either? Is there any ROM on the chip?

Hi Steven,

The device does not contain any embedded microcode or programmable logic. It is configured solely through hardware straps and MDIO register reads/writes.

Thanks for your response Greg.

I'm worried we may not be using the same definitions. A device that "is configured solely through hardware straps and MDIO register reads/writes" could still have a processor unit executing a sequence of instructions from a ROM. For my question, the alternative to embedded microcode is function specific state machines, hardcoded in the silicon.

The PHY does not have ROM. The latter option you described is a correct understanding of the device.
