MAX3232E: Charge pump capacitors

Part Number: MAX3232E

Question is if you use 1.0uF capacitors for the Charge Pump instead of the 0.1u capacitors can this damage the charge pump.  We are seeing low voltages on the Charge Pump caps on some returned products.

    Larry,

    Changing the charge pump capacitors won't damage the device but it will change the voltage that they will regulate to and the switching of the frequency. 

    If you probe VS+ and VS- you should see around 5.4V and -5.4V if you used the recommended values. If you use large cap values you will likely see a value that is smaller than that.
