SN65DP149: Alternate part request

Part Number: SN65DP149
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDP142, TDP2004, TDP0604

Hi TI Team.

We have been using this part no :SN65DP141RLJR (link: https://www.digikey.in/en/products/detail/texas-instruments/SN65DP141RLJR/5973303)for Display port interface(Video Redriver). But the part is obsolete now. we request you to provide exact alternate for this part ensuring same footprint, functionalities and pinouts

  • **White check mark Answer: No exact pin-to-pin / footprint / functionality replacement exists.**

The **SN65DP141RLJR** (DisplayPort 1.4 Linear Redriver) has been discontinued by Texas Instruments. According to TI’s official responses in their E2E forum and distributor notifications, the entire SN65DP141 family is going EOL.

    ### TI Recommended Alternatives

TI has suggested the following parts as functional replacements:

    | Part Number | Max Speed | Type | Pin-to-Pin Compatible? | Key Differences | Recommendation |
    |-------------------|---------------|-------------------|------------------------|------------------|----------------|
    | **TDP142** | DP 1.4 (8.1 Gbps) | Linear Redriver | **No** | Similar functionality, different package/pinout | **Best functional match** for your current design |
    | **TDP2004** | DP 2.1 (20 Gbps)| Linear Redriver | **No** | Newer generation, higher speed support | Good for future-proofing |
    | TDP0604 | DP 1.4 + HDMI | Redriver + Level Shifter | No | Can handle DP++ to HDMI conversion | Only if you need HDMI support |

**Important**: None of these are **drop-in replacements**. They have different pinouts and packages, so a PCB layout change will be required.

    ### Summary of Differences

    | Feature | SN65DP141 (Obsolete) | TDP142 (Recommended) | TDP2004 |
    |---------------------------|---------------------------|-------------------------------|--------------------------|
    | **DisplayPort Version** | DP 1.4 (HBR3) | DP 1.4 (HBR3) | DP 2.1 (UHBR20) |
    | **Data Rate** | Up to 8.1 Gbps | Up to 8.1 Gbps | Up to 20 Gbps |
    | **Type** | Linear Redriver | Linear Redriver | Linear Redriver |
    | **Pin-to-Pin** | - | No | No |
    | **Package** | 38-WQFN (RLJ) | Different | Different |
    | **EQ / Pre-emphasis** | Configurable | Configurable | More advanced |
    | **Power Consumption** | Low | Similar | Slightly higher |
    | **Status** | Obsolete | Active | Active |

    ### Recommendations

    1. **Best Immediate Option**:
Switch to **TDP142**. It is the closest functional replacement for DisplayPort 1.4 redriver applications.

    2. **Future-Proof Option**:
Use **TDP2004** if you want to support higher-speed DisplayPort 2.1 in future designs.

    3. **Next Steps**:
    - Download the datasheets for **TDP142** and **TDP2004** and compare pinouts with your current layout.
    - Contact your TI FAE / local sales for:
    - Official recommendation
    - Any possible last-time-buy (LTB) quantity for SN65DP141RLJR
    - Evaluation boards/samples of TDP142 or TDP2004
    - Consider whether you can accept a small PCB respin (most customers do this when moving from SN65DP141).

    Would you like me to:
    - Compare the pinouts between SN65DP141 and TDP142?
    - Suggest possible third-party alternatives (e.g., from Diodes Inc. / Parade)?
    - Help evaluate the TDP142 / TDP2004 based on your specific DisplayPort version and trace length?

    E:ace@metacompute.hk

Just let me know your requirements (DP version, max trace/cable length, power budget, etc.), and I can give more targeted advice.

  • Hi,

Unfortunately we do not have a p2p replacement for SN65DP141RLJR. For DisplayPort re-driver, the closest replacement is TDP142 or TDP2004, but both of them would require a change in PCB design.

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi David,

We noticed that the above-mentioned parts have very limited stock at DigiKey and Mouser.

Could you please let us know the expected longevity or lifecycle of these parts? We are planning to use them in a long-term project, as we are redesigning our PCB due to the SN65DP141RLJR becoming obsolete. We want to ensure the replacement parts will be available for the long term.

Also, could you suggest any alternative parts with similar specifications and functionality? If possible, please share the lifecycle status or expected longevity of those alternatives as well.

  • Hi,

At this point there is no plan to EOL both the TDP142 and TDP2004. For TI EOL policy, please refer to this link, https://www.ti.com/quality-reliability/quality/product-life-cycle.html.

For similar spec and functionality, I would recommend TDP2004 as a alternate solution.

    Thanks

    David
