DS100MB203: Connecting two devices across a connector

Part Number: DS100MB203

Hello,

I would like to know the best way to connect two ds100mb203

device together across a Samtec connector.   between two boards.

should the setup be as follows

device TX -> AC caps -> connector -> device RX

Or is it better to put the AC caps on the receive side.?  This design is for a 10G Ethernet application so any advice would be welcome the second device will connect to an SFP module cage and the first device will be driven from a Marvell Switch .

  • Hi David,

The general convention is to put the AC coupling caps on the TX side, close to the connector. This is to lump the impedance discontinuity of the AC caps and connector together as one discontinuity.

    Best,
