TPS610333: Query Regarding TPS610333DRLR EN Pin Threshold Behavior During Low Battery Cut-Off

This is Banupriya from iWave Systems.

We are using the TPS610333DRLR boost regulator in our device. As part of our low battery cut-off implementation, we are controlling the EN (Enable) pin of boost regulator (TPS610333DRLR)  to ensure that the device powers on only after the battery voltage reaches the desired threshold.

During our testing, we observed that the boost regulator starts generating the output voltage when the EN pin reaches approximately 1.0 V. As a result, the device enters the power-on state before the EN pin reaches the expected threshold.

However, according to the datasheet, the VEN_H (Enable Input High Threshold) is specified as 1.2 V, and we expected the boost regulator to remain disabled until the EN pin reaches this threshold.

Could you please let us know why the output voltage starts generating at approximately 1.0 V instead of 1.2 V? Additionally, is there any recommended hardware or software approach to ensure that the boost regulator remains completely disabled until the EN pin reaches the specified  VEN_H threshold during the low battery cut-off condition?

  • Hi Banupriya,

    Since 1.2V is the maximum value, it represents the threshold ensuring that all mass-produced chips function correctly when the externally supplied voltage exceeds 1.2V; for any individual chip, the actual voltage value will certainly be lower than 1.2V. Based on your requirements, you might consider controlling the EN pin externally instead of connecting it directly to VIN.
