DP83867IR: Regarding the clock out of DP83867IR

Hi TI,

Here is my application, the SoC provides a 25MHz clock to the DP83867IR, and the DP83867IR outputs a clock to the SoC via CLK_OUT pin.
-The Ethernet throughput supports both 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps.

-A 24MHz crystal provides the main clock source for the SoC.

My question is: Can I disconnect the CLK_OUT connection in my application?

Hi Webber,

Is the SoC using the 125MHz signal for any operations? Or is this connection used to terminate the DP83867 CLK_OUT?

Hi Greg,

No, the SoC doesn't use the 125MHz for the other applications.

The SoC provides the 25MHz to the PHY for sure, but I'm not sure if the SoC still needs the PHY's CLK_OUT for RGMII to work properly.
Could you please help to clarify it?

Hi Webber,

If the SoC does not use the 125MHz clock, the CLK_OUT of the DP83867 does not have to be connected to the SoC.
