Hi,

Here is the quick overview of our project architecture and loss budget:

Path: Gold Finger → Redriver → MCIO → MXM (running PCIe Gen5)
AIC Insertion Loss Baseline: 9.5 dB
Cable Loss: 7.5 dB
MCIO to MXM Module Loss: 12 dB
Gold Finger → Redriver → MCIO Loss: ~10 dB (Estimated)
Required Redriver Compensation: At least 20 dB

Request: Could you please help evaluate the routing/schematics for the Gold Finger → Redriver → MCIO segment? We would appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or corrections you might have.

Hi Jeff,

TI recommends to add a provision for SMBus slave mode to help with tuning.

I don't understand the loss budget you've given me. What is loss pre-channel and post-channel to the redriver? The redriver performs best compensating for pre-channel loss.

Hi Jeff,

For upstream channel (MXM -> Redriver -> motherboard), current redriver placement is good.

For downstream channel (Motherboard -> Redriver -> MXM), ideal redriver placement is before the MXM module. However, this may not be possible due to customer's system constraints.

29.5dB of total insertion loss should be no issue for the link, but I suggest customer to perform SI simulations.
