TCAN2847-Q1: Sleep/Standby Modes and related Current Consumption

Part Number: TCAN2847-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1167-Q1

Daer TRX team,

my customer is considering TCAN2847-Q1 for an interior design but needs the CAN (no LIN needed only CAN) wakeupcapabilty + one WAKE pin active.

Challenge is the target for the SBC is to not use more than 20 µA in this state.

I found this table in the DS showcasing supply characteritcs during various operatina modes.

What I found is the slpwotrx mode where only one WAKE pin is active but I assume this disables the CAN wakeup capability.

  1. Is there a mode where CAN wakeup us prensent and one WAKE pin
  2. If yes how much would the current consumption be in this mode
  3. If not what would the closest operation mode and its related current consumption

Thanks!

Kind regards

  • Hi Dierk,

If your customer doesn't need LIN in any mode, then I would use TCAN2845 instead of TCAN2847 since it doesn't include the LIN transceiver and is a little cheaper.

For the power consumption, the lowest power Sleep configuration is what is defined in the ISUP_slpswotrx spec conditions that you've circled. The only feature active in this configuration is 1 WAKE pin. When you add the CAN transceiver in wake capable mode, this adds about 14uA to your ISUP so your total ISUP for your config you stated above will be about 32uA at 25C. By default the CAN TRX is wake capable, but the mode the CAN TRX is in is controlled by the CAN1_TRX_SEL field in the CAN_CNTRL_1 register. Also by default, all 3 WAKE pins are enabled, so you can write 001b to the WAKE_PIN_SET field in the WAKE_PIN_CONFIG3 register to only have 1 WAKE pin enabled since each WAKE pin consumes 1-2 uA each.

Unfortunately we can't get to 20uA with your desired config unless you remove the wake capable CAN TRX from the equation and just have the WAKE pin be the only wake source for the device.

  • Hello Matt,

my customer is back on this topic asking if TCAN1167-Q1 could achieve lower current consumption (20 µA target) given the same requirements CAN wakeupcapabilty + one WAKE pin active

    Kind regards

  • Hi Dierk,

TCAN1167-Q1 has a lot less features and supplies far less power from its 100mA LDO than TCAN28xx-Q1 (few LDOs, less diagnostics, no HSSs, etc.). Can you describe what features you were going to use in the TCAN28xx and what your max current consumption for each LDO would be? Also what is your operating temperature range? TCAN1167-Q1 has a max sleep current of 40uA at 85C.

    Regards,

    Matt
