I've got a somewhat novel curiosity about a video-link I'm developing. We're sourcing a 1080p60hz video with DisplayPort. And delivering it to a sink taking DVI-D (or 3G-SDI). The source and sink are 50 feet apart, so we're considering FPD-Link IV to span that gap. This is a space-based application so buying an active Displayport/Dvi cable and using an adapter isn't an option.

Through the chain below:

Goal: DisplayPort --> FPD-Link IV --> X --> DVI-D

My proposed design: 2-Lane DisplayPort 1.2a (SoC) --> 2-Lane FPD-Link IV (Ux983) --> Dual-Channel OpenLDI (Ux988) --> 24-Bit RGB (SoC) --> Single-Link DVI-D (TFP410)

Now, the question: Does TI have any product (or chain of products) to convert a 1080p60hz video (148.5MHz with blanking) stream output from the Ux988 into 24-Bit RGB for the TFP410? Either output as Single or Dual-Channel OLDI (RGB is limited to 125MHz). We're trying to avoid use of a sink-side FPGA/SoC. Or any other recommendations if there's options we've missed.

    We do have guidance on this sort of conversion via an old application note, but it doesn't cover up to a 148.5MHz PCLK:

    Typically in the lab, we use an off board, external solution that I believe uses the TFP410, but I am not sure what else it uses to get from LVDS to RGB. Unfortunately if you are looking for an on board solution, TI does not have anything that supports that PCLK.

  • That's exactly the app note I've been looking at.

    As a follow up and it may be the same answer. Does TI have any deserializers that takes dual-channel OLDI and outputs 24-Bit RGB compatible with the TFP410? If I output dual-channel OLDI from the Ux988 that would only be at a PCLK of 74.25MHz. Or components that would take the 48-Bit RGB output from the deserializers in SLLA559 and interleave them for the TFP410?

    Unfortunately, I cannot comment on further 988 functionality / configurations since that device is still under NDA, do you have a local TI representative or FAE that can help map this information for you?
