Hi TI Team,

I am using the TCAN1146DYYRQ1 in an automotive ECU. The CANH/CANL signals are routed as a 120-OHM differential pair from the transceiver to the connector.

Could you please advise if TI has a recommended maximum PCB trace length between the transceiver and the connector for reliable CAN FD operation? Also, are there any recommendations on length matching or the maximum number of vias?

    Apologies for the delay here. Most of our team is out of office on summer vacation.

    There is no maximum PCB trace length. However, please ensure that the CMC (if used) is placed directly next to the transceiver with all other components (like termination, filtering, etc) placed right after the CMC. ESD and other protection components should be placed directly next to the connector. The PCB trace length for the CAN lines ultimately doesn't matter assuming you follow these practices. 

    Length matching is best practice to implement, but it is technically not required. Vias on the CANH/CANL lines should be reduced as much as possible (ideally none). These introduce additional inductance to the entire CAN network which can affect short/open circuit detection.
