DP83867E: register showing communication errors

Part Number: DP83867E

Hi team,

Customer Issue: Currently, there is a missing frame fault under certain conditions (motor is spinning). The customer manually changed the network cable because of a problem with the PHY analog side sequence of the board. The interference is now suspected to have increased after the motor is enabled, resulting in frame loss issues.

Does DP83867ERGZR have any register that indicates communication errors like bit errors, missing frames, and so forth on the analog side of the PHY?

Thanks.

Joyce

  • Hi Joyce,

The only packet error counters that the PHY has is Reg 0x15. This is typically used to detect for any corruption of data the PHY detects on the MDI incoming. It will not capture any corruption on the MII. To better understand if there is any corruption there, you must utilize MII loopback testing and check MAC counters.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome

  • Hi Gerome,

There is another question about analog Loopback for DP83867ERGZR: Do customers only need to configure 5:2 of 0X16 register to 0010? Is there anything else customers need to configure? Whether below actions are needed, such as existing auto-negotiation? configure 0X00FE register?

Could you kindly help comment on the steps that customers need to do? Thanks.

    Thanks.

    Joyce

  • Joyce,

For Analog loopback, there may be 100 ohm termination required. I would recommend having MII loopback or digital loopback instead for simplicity of testing instead.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome
