TCAN1051HGV-Q1: Setting CAN Bus Biasing Inactive - TCAN1051HGVDRB

Part Number: TCAN1051HGV-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1051-Q1, TCAN1042HGV

We have used the TCAN1051HGVDRB in our application. Please clarify the following:

How do we set the CAN bus biasing to inactive? We are asking this to verify Table 9 (Receiver Input Characteristics – Bus Biasing Inactive) of ISO 11898-2:2016.

According to the TCAN datasheet (Section 8.4.4), for the Z, CANH, and CANL outputs, the pins appear to be biased to VCC/2 for any logic level on the S pin. Could you please clarify how this condition aligns with the requirement of “bus biasing inactive”?

  • Hi Balaji,

TCAN1051-Q1 uses a silent mode which has driver disabled but receiver still enabled, thus the bus bias is VCC/2 in recessive state. If you need bus biased to GND in low power state, please use TCAN1042HGV that has standby mode.
