TPS25860-Q1: The use case if connected with a legacy adapter

Part Number: TPS25860-Q1

Hi teams,

Customers is validating the scenario that when connected with a legacy non-PD source drives ~5 V on our Type-C output (TPS25860) (PB_BUS) which regardless of CC/Rd or any contract, therefore, there is an external voltage always sit on the port pin. How will TPS25860 prevent the use case?

Please confirm:

1. Abs-max / withstand of PA_BUS/PB_BUS with external voltage applied? (Datasheet only mentions VIN OVP.)

2. Product unpowered: can the 5 V back-feed into our rail via the switch/body diode?

3. Do we need external reverse-blocking / TVS for this case?

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Rookie

  • Hi Rookie,

Thanks for reaching out. Vbus is an output pin and  this is not a valid use case. The 5V should be able to feed back to the Vin side. I believe a reverse blocking will be need between the receptacle and Vbus pin.

    Abs-max of V_BUS is 6V.
