Yes this is possible, there are enough variations in the various processes here that the part markings on some devices can be more or less distinct.

This is likely the result of the package singulation. Each individual package is separated from the lead frame strip during that process, and the edge isn't necessarily perfectly uniform. It is normal for the end result to have some visible texture.
