TUSB3410: Comparison to FTDI FT260

Part Number: TUSB3410

Hello,

Would you be able to help create a comparison between TI's TUSB3410 and FTDI's FT260? I am specifically interested in the application of them both as USB to I2C bridges (I know there is other functionality in them, but that is less important to me).

Best,

Jackson

  • Hi Jackson,

The TUSB3410 does support USB to I2C functionality, however it would require some software development on the customer's side, and at this time our software support for this device is limited. We do provide firmware for this on TI.com for customers to use, the customer can download it directly from the product webpage: https://www.ti.com/product/TUSB3410#software-development . The TUSB3410 should support HID over I2C, which is the same functionality used by the FT260: https://ftdichip.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/AN_399_FT260_HID-over-I2C.pdf

We also have additional software that can be provided to customers for development on their side.

What comparisons are you looking for exactly between the two? Device specs, or just pure functionality comparison?

    Thanks,

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

These SW comments are a great start for the comparison, thank you.

Functionality comparison is more what I am after. But ahead of that, would you be able to help bound what is meant by "some software development on the customer's side"? Understood that TI has some FW, but what additionally is needed (ex. Linux driver)?

    Best,

    Jackson

  • Hi Jackson,

That depends, is this for a windows or Linux implementation? I can look into what linux files we already have for this.

For the software development side, I more so mean that if there is certain functionality that the current software/FW we have does not provide that the customer needs, they will need to develop this on their side. However we can provide the source files we have for help if needed.

For functionality comparison, both these devices can act as USB to UART/I2C Master bridges. The TUSB3410 comes intended for USB to UART using the I2C pins to read from an EEPROM for configuration, but can be configured using provided FW to act as a USB to I2C bridge using HID over I2C

    Thanks,

    Ryan
