TCAN4572-Q1: Support for 1 Mbps Arbitration Bit Rate?

Part Number: TCAN4572-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN4550-Q1,

Hi TI Team,

We previously considered using the TCAN4550-Q1 for MCUs with limited or no integrated CAN FD controllers, but its high VSUP voltage requirement was a problem for our design.

Now we are once again looking for an external CAN FD controller, and I came across the new TCAN4572-Q1.

The lower maximum data-phase bit rate of 5 Mbps is a bit disappointing, but it would still be sufficient for our application.

However, my main concern is the arbitration bit rate. Does the TCAN4572-Q1 support 1 Mbps in the arbitration phase, or is it limited to 667 kbps according to the newer ISO standard?

We currently use 1 Mbps for arbitration and 8 Mbps for the data phase, so maintaining the 1 Mbps arbitration bit rate is important for us.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards,
Theo

  • Hi Theo,

TCAN4572-Q1 still supports the 1Mbps traditional arbitration rate for CAN FD, you can also configure the speed as you need.

That 667kbps is more like a theoretical limit of CAN SIC. Since you are running CAN FD, it would not be a concern.
