TCAN1576-Q1: A question about SWE and standby mode

Part Number: TCAN1576-Q1

Hi, Team:

I am testing the SWE(Sleep Wake Error) of TCAN1576, please help me answer the following question:

TCAN1576 is in Standby mode after power on, then enable SWE(set SWE_EN to 1b) , but TCAN1576 cannot enter Sleep mode after tINACTIVE;   In addition, I found that if TCAN1576 switch to Normal mode first, and then switch to Standby mode, it can enter Sleep mode after tINACTIVE, what's the reason for this?

Thanks for your answer!

Fed

  • Hi Fed,

The SWE timer does not start when TCAN1576 first powers up into Standby mode. This is considered a cold start and so TCAN1576 gives the MCU as much time as needed to power on. This is why you see the SWE timer active after leaving Standby the first time.

The SWE timer is designed for when TCAN1576 (or any other Sleep enabled CAN transceiver) wakes out of Sleep mode into Standby mode. If the transceiver wakes out of Sleep into Standby, but the MCU errors out or does not direct the transceiver into a different mode, then TCAN1576 will automatically re-enters Sleep mode to conserve power and not drain the battery.
