AM62L: Clarification on tscadc0 Support in U-Boot

Part Number: AM62L

Hi Team,

For AM62Lx, I noticed that the tscadc0 controller is configured in k3-am62l-main.dtsi and enabled in k3-am62l3-evm.dts. However, I couldn't find a corresponding ADC driver in U-Boot.
Could you please clarify how the ADC functionality is validated in U-Boot without a dedicated driver? I would also appreciate your guidance on how to test the ADC functionality on my custom board in U-Boot.

Thanks & Regards,
Janani

  • Hi Janani,

No, U-Boot doesn't have a driver to support the tscadc module.

The U-Boot devicetree has tscadc0 defined in k3-am62l-main.dtsi only because the U-Boot devicetree under dts/upstream/src/ directory is the exact same copy from Linux kernel.

  • Why do you need ADC support in U-Boot, and cannot wait until boot into Linux?

  • Hi Bin,

Our requirement is to read the SOM PCB and BOM revision details through the available ADC channels in U-Boot and print the detected SOM revision during the boot process, before proceeding with the Linux boot.

  • Hi Janani,

If the board design is already complete which is locked on ADC and you have to use the ADC for the communication, then you would have to implement the ADC driver in U-Boot as it doesn't exist currently.

But if your board is still in the design phase, I recommend to use different interface for the communication, such as I2C or GPIO depending on the information to be transferred. You are using a SOM design but ADC interface might not exist on other SoC.
