TUSB9261: TUSB9261: Reproducible Silent Data Corruption Possibly Related to Data Path RAM

Part Number: TUSB9261

Hi team,

We are investigating reproducible data corruption on one board using the TUSB9261.

System configuration

  • Host: NXP i.MX 8M Nano
  • Connection: USB host → USB hub → TUSB9261 → SATA SSD
  • TUSB9261 firmware: v1.06

Issue

Data read from the SSD is occasionally corrupted without any USB or SATA CRC errors.

The issue occurs only on one board. The same SSD and test data work correctly on another board of the same design.

The corruption has the following pattern:

  • Only bit 1 at offset 0x822 within a 4 KB block changes.
  • The change is always from 0 to 1.
  • The same bit in the data read 64 KB earlier was always 1.

Using alternating 64 KB blocks of 0xFF and 0x00, the failing board showed 659 errors, while the known-good board showed no errors.

We also confirmed the following:

  • No corruption with an external USB-to-SATA adapter
  • DDR memory tests passed
  • SSD SMART shows no CRC or ECC errors
  • Power supplies, reset, and clock are within specification

We suspect a possible failure in the TUSB9261 Data Path RAM or internal data path.

Could you please advise:

  1. Are there any known issues or similar cases?
  2. Could firmware v1.06 cause this behavior?
  3. Are there any recommended diagnostic tests?
  4. Is failure analysis available, and should we send the assembled board or the removed device?

Best Regards,

  • Hello,

If you swap the TUSB9261 on that board with a TUSB9261 from a board that does not have this issue, does the issue follow the TUSB9261, or does it stay primarily on this board?

Is this only one board/unit where this issue is present, or does this happen with all boards using the TUSB9261?

What are the test conditions, I.E temperature, voltage on VDD and VDD33.

This is not a known issue with the TUSB9261 and software version 1.06.

    Thanks,

    Ryan
