SN75LVCP600S SAS & SATA support with no user intervention

Hello:  I am submittig this question for our customer:

>>>>> I need Texas Instruments technical help on the following part:  SN75LVCP600SDK, the description says: 1.5/3.0/6.0 Gbps SATA/SAS Redriver.

Desired Outcome:  I need to drive a long cable from a SAS/SATA HBA to a SAS or SATA hard drive.  The SAS/SATA HBA can support either a SAS or SATA drives without any user intervention.  That is the HBA can automatically identify whether the drive is SATA or SAS.  Given the fact that SAS is backward electrically compatible with SATA it is not a surprise.

Possible Solution:  I found the SN75LVPC600SDK, which the description says it is a SATA/SAS Redriver.  However, the “Mode” pin  selects SATA or SAS output levels. Furthermore, the SQ_TH selects two distinctly different OOB threshold levels.

Questions:

1)       I want to hardwire the “Mode” pin to a “1” ( SAS mode ) and be able to support SAS drives and SATA drives, without the user having to flip a switch.  Is this possible?

2)      If I do 1) then how should the SQ_TH pin be hooked up?
