MAX3232EI and a SN74LVC16245ADGGR power up

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MAX3232

I am using twoof your parts in a design (MAX3232EI and a SN74LVC16245ADGGR) and I just got errata on the part that interfaces to both of your parts, on power up there will be contention on pins 9 and pin 12 of the MAX3232EI and pins 13,14,16,17,19,20 these pins are outputs and enabled of part # SN74LVC16245ADGGR. Your pins will be driven low with a 33 ohm driver for about 18 ms will this cause any issue for your two parts that I have listed above ? I have no way to fix it but I need to make sure I am damaging your either of your devices. Thank You, Aaron

  • As far as the SN74LVC16245ADGGR goes, If  the part is enabled and you are driving the outputs low,  all is OK if you are also driving the inputs low.  If however the part is driving a high then there could be damage.

I am gussing this is at power up. If the 16245 is not powered during this contention (Vcc=0V) then all is OK because the I/O's will be High impedance due to the Ioff feature.

  • John,

If VCC is 3.3V then ROUT current will be about 8mA. It will be higher with VCC=5V.
I do not expect any problems with the MAX3232.
