LMH0341 and LMH0394 Connection

Hello,

Our customer is using the LMH0394 equalizer connected to LMH0341 deserializer (the distance between two components is about 1cm):  

  1. Does ac coupling capacitor at the connection between them? Or can it be left out?
  2. Is there a for need 100 ohm parallel termination between them? Or the internal termination resistor is sufficient?
  3. is there any difference in connection between RX0 to RX1? I intend to use RX0.

    Hi Ran,

    Please below note responses to your questions:

    1). LMH0394 to LMH0341 could be DC or AC coupled. LMH0341 has internal 100 Ohm R between positive and negative differential pair and a weak bias. So you can DC couple or AC couple between these two devices. If you decide to AC couple please use large Cap values(4.7uF or higher) in order to pass pathological video pattern.

    2). No need for external 100 Ohm R since this is already integrated within LMH0341 as mentioned above.

    3). LMH0341 has two inputs: RXIN0 and RXIN1. By grounding RX_MUX_Sel pin you would be able to use RXIN0. Similarly you can pull RX_MUX_SEL high and use RXIN1. As such, you can switch between these inputs if desired(rather than having external switch).

    Thanks, another question is regarding the SDALTEVK. In this evaluation kit there are several options for setups.

    Could you please explain how should the EVK be configured in order that a 3G SDI video output will be produced?

    The SDALTEVK is plugged in to a host FPGA board with an HSMC connector.   The provided IP includes a pre-compiled image for the Cyclone III development kit, or you can get versions for other host boards.   One you have loaded the software, there is program that you can access with the altera "NIOS2-Terminal" program, which will put the system into various different modes - mode 6 is as a standalone pattern generator where you can select the test pattern to be generated and the video format desired.
