PCA9555/TCA9555 driving led, avoid increased quiscent current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCA9555

Hello,

I just read on page 23 of data sheet of PCA9555 (revised May 2008) about the problem of increased supply current due to forward voltage of switched off led and how to avoid it by paralleling a resistor.

The self-evident solution would be to put the pin into output/high status in order to switch a led off, isn't it? The high state of the output should rise the voltage above the critical 0.6 V below VCC. Where I am wrong?

Thanks – Peter
