Panel Bus DVI Receiver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TFP403, TFP401A, TFP501, TFP401

Which Panel Bus receiver is recommended for new designs ? I was given TFP401A by TI earlier. I came across a forum where it was advised to use TFP403 for new designs. Can you please confirm which part to use ?

Thanks,

Lakshmi

  • Either the TFP401A or TFP403 can be used.  The TFP401A was created to accommodate old Silicon Image DVI transmitters that had an HSYNC jitter problem; these devices are no longer on the market.  The TFP403 doesn't include this, but it has a pinout that matches the TFP501; this makes it easier to migrate to an HDCP-compliant receiver in the future if you decide so.

  • Do you mean TFP401A is no longer used by customers ? I do not need HDCP function. I just need a simple DVI to RGB receiver which can handle up to 1920x1200 resolution. Also, can these parts also interface to HDMI signals ?

  • I meant that the old Silicon Image devices that had the problem aren't on the market.

The TFP401A is a good choice for you.  It converts DVI to RGB and handles 1920x1200.  DVI signals are "TMDS", which is identical to a subset of what HDMI supports.  It doesn't support frequencies faster than 165MHz (used for deep color and very high resolution), it doesn't support audio, and it only supports 24-bit color (which is by far the most common).

  • I am using Sitara processor's HDMI port. I do not need audio and am using RGB-24. So it sounds like TFP401/401A will work fine.On Sitara, the HDMI port is also DVI compliant.
