TLK10002 Video Application Question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK10002

TI Team,

I have a new application that involves HD video. I was wondering if you could answer a few questions about the TLK10002. I need to mux/demux 3 SDI signals that vary in speed. Here are the rates for the different protocols I'm trying to support:

  • SD-SDI: 270 Mbit/s, 360 Mbit/s, 143 Mbit/s, and 177 Mbit/s
  • ED-SDI: 540 Mbit/s
  • HD-SDI: 1.485 Gbit/s
  • 3G-SDI: 2.970 Gbit/s
Below are are my questions:
  • First, can the TLK10002 support can TLK10002 handle ED/HD/3G-SDI signal (protocol)?
  • Can the device be configured to mux/demux 3 signals rather than 2 or 4?
  • Can the device handle the SD-SDI data rate, or does it require a minimum input of 500Mbit/s?
If this SERDES device is not suited for this application, can you recommend a solution that will?
Again, thanks for your help.

  • David,

TLK10002 cannot support data rates lower than 500mbps on the slow speed serial side of the device so the SD-SDI data rates between 143Mbps to 360Mbps cannot be supported by TLK10002. TLK10002 does not support 3:1 mode operation for any of the cases.  The 540Mbps data rate can be supported by TLK10002.  In addition, TLK10002 can support 4 inputs of 1.4885Gbps (per channel)  or 2 inputs of 2.970Gbps (per channel)  but TLK10002 assumes the slow speed inputs are all 8b/10b coded. In the future, we plan to develop devices that will support both 8b/10b and raw/scrambled data that is more in line with SDI requirements.
