DS92LV1212A cable lengths

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CLC001

Hi,

I'm looking for specific information in regards to driving the differential signal over a cable (cat 5e twisted pair) using the DS92LV1212A IC.

I'm planning on running up to 6-7 meter (max) cable lengths.

The clock for the serializer will be at 16Mhz, but could possibly be implemented at 25 Mhz as well.

Would a cable driver IC such as CLC001 be required for these lengths?

Thanks,

Mike

  • Greetings -

At the clock rates and cable lengths noted, 6-7 meters should be within reach of the a direct connect of the SER to DES.  These tend to be up to 10 meter links.  Other issues to be aware of would be: external noise, grounding, and what other signals are in the cable.  I do not believe an additional repeater device will be needed.  The CAT connectors can have cross talk issues with fast edges, select the pinout careful for maximizing isolation, run GND down one of the middle pairs if possible.  CAT 7 is nice for it shielding and is great for running two links is opposite directions.
