TUSB3410 with Windows 7: COM Port error on first open. (Close and re-open and it works)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB3410

Hello,

I am using the TUSB3410 in a design where it is operating as a generic RS232 port.

There is no attached external eeprom and there is only one device present in the system.

The latest driver (downloaded as[swrc094g].zip is installed in Windows 7 Professional and 7 Embedded as COM11.

We always get an error with the very first time when we open the port in Windows.

For example, if we use WinSSD from SeaCOM, we get Access Denied.  If we close the port and re-open it, it works fine.

If we use BurninTest Pro 7 and select COM11, we get COM Port not ready.  If we close the port and re-open it, it works fine.

It is always the first access to the device where we seen an error with com port access.

Has anyone else seen this before?

  • This issue is being handled in a separate thread.

The VCP driver will be available again tomorrow, please make download it ant try it out.

Are you getting an error message? What do they do for "try again" ?

We have a different failure with a different device but also with the passmark burn in test, so I'm wondering if the software could have some problems, is the customer able to make the test using another application?

  • Thank you.

It is me who is getting the error message.  We designed the TUSB3410 into our product and have it powered from a main power rail.  There is no attached eeprom.

We are using Windows 7 professional and embedded.  In both cases, we are testing with burnintest pro 7 (from passmark softare) and with another serial program called WinSSD from SeaCOM.

After a system power up 100% of the time, when you access/open the serial port for the first time, you get an error message.

If you close and then re-open the port, in this case com 11, the port works.  The issue is essentially the first open of the virtual com port to the TUSB3410 fails regardless of what serial program you use.  After that, it works without any trouble.

  • Hello,

Can you send a screenshot of the error message? How does the TUSB3410 looks on device manager when you get the error.

Uninstall the driver with all its files and re-install it.

Do you have other drivers installed for that interacts with the TUSB3410? We have seen this behavior with the passmark software and other TI devices due to driver collisions, when installing only the TI driver the problem goes away.

    Regards.

  • Hi Elias,

I have emailed you some screen shots of what we see to your email.

There is no observable error in device manager other than you see device manager re-populate all items as if it was auto-refreshing.

There are no other drivers for TUSB3410, there is only 1 TUSB3410 in the system.
